WORLD HISTORY AND LITERATURE: GREEKS III
1. Be able to locate Macedonia on a map.
2. Identify the following:
Philip II Alexander the Great Pytheas
Praxiteles Euclid Diogenes Ptolemy I
Epicurus Archimedes diadochoi
3. Why did Alexander’s empire fail to hold together after his death? What lessons might we learn from that failure?
4. The gifts of the Greeks--passed first to the Romans, then through the Christian Church in the Middle Ages and Renaissance--continue to reverberate in our culture today. Pretend that you are to give a 300 word address to your local Kiwanis Club on our Greek heritage. Write out that address and be prepared to deliver it in class. Think of everything we've discussed so far: the Greek interest in military tactics, government, art, and philosophy.
